Ina1956coverstoryinTimemagazine,EeroSaarinensaidhewasdesigningacollectionto"clearuptheslumoflegsintheU.S.home."Laterthatyear,hecompletedhisPedestalTableandTulip™ChairCollection(1956)andobliteratedthe"slum"bycreatingacastaluminumbaseinspiredbyadropofhigh-viscosityliquid.Theplatinumenamelhasaclearsatinfinish,whiletheblackandwhiteframesarereinforcedbondedfinishesthatmaintaintheirglossthroughyearsofuse.ThecompactandcomfortableTulipStoolhasaswivelseatwithapaddedcushion.Availableupholsteryincludeséclatweave(pronounceda-clat),whichwasdesignedbyweaverandprintmakerAnniAlbersin1974.BeginninghercareerattheBauhaus,AlbersstarteddesigningforKnoll®in1959.Sheoriginallydesignedéclattobeaprintedtextile–KnollTextilesreintroducedthefabricin2007,withthepatternwovendirectlyintothematerial.
